# Clay Feet - Author: Terry Prachett - Genre: #### Kindle Highlights #### Notes The story is about automation and what can go wrong if it's not properly implemented. Nah but seriously it's a story that starts out with a golem being sold to a merchant and then a series of murders occurring. A priest & baker have turned up dead and it's up to Sam Vimes & the Watch to figure out the mystery behind the murders before things get even more dangerous for the innocent citizens of Ankh-Morpork, I mean they're all guilty of something as Vimes would say. Then to make matters even worse Lord Ventanari has been poisoned as well! It follows Vimes, Captain Carrot, Constable Angua, Captain Colon, Constable Nobs, Constable Detrius and the newest recruit to the Watch, Cheery Littlebottom a dwarf. Cheery while being a dwarf isn't your run of the mill one that sings songs about the usual dwarfish interests such as mining or gold or mining for gold. No, they're interested in alchemy and are assigned the role of such for the Watch. They put their talents to use as a sort of investigative lab for the Watch, identifying various substances left at crime scenes. This comes is particularly useful in this instance as it seems the criminal committing the murders have left behind some peculiar clues that only Cheery would be able to safely (or somewhat safely) be able to identify. She, yes Cheery is a female dwarf mind you, is thankful for the opportunity to demonstrate their non-standard dwarf skills for use of the Watch. She grows accustomed and rather close to Angua, the Watches resident werewolf however Cheery isn't yet aware of Angua being as such. Nonetheless in the meantime, they form a bond and Angua encourages her to be herself and not hide who they are. Because if you can't be yourself in Ankh-Morpork, where can you? The situation becomes even more dire as it seems the Patrician has been poisoned but still lives albeit barely, unlike the two citizens that were poisoned to death. If the Patrician is no longer in charge, happenings in Ankh-Morpork will be thrust into chaos! For while Lord Ventenari is a dastardly one, at least he's sane compared to the lords of past. It's up to Vimes and the rest of the squad to figure this out fast before someone gets the bright idea to bring back a monarchy to the denizens of the city. Speaking of, it appears that Nobby of all people, (or as close to being identified as a person), is from noble heritage, an Earl, no less! Having discovered his lineage posses a coat of arms, Nobby is destined for something, is it great, well he doesn't think so but others seem to have their own plans for him. So now it appears the guilds are interested in this revelation because they think they'll have a Lord they can manage or manipulate more like it. Only when they find out that Nobby isn't one to lured to such responsibilities, as Nobs is too respectable to go around volunteering, but he's also keenly aware of what happened to the cities last monarch. The wicked king was beheaded by the Watches own Sam Vimes great great grandfather, Ole Stoneface. Whilst this is going on, Captain Carrot & Angua are hot on the trail of the cities golems that are acting rather strange, stranger than most would appreciate. If the golems are working then they're clearly up to something & what that is, Carrot is determined to get to the bottom of it. Even if it may cost him his life. However with the support & help of Angua, his life may be spared at the expense of others that get in their way. They discover one of the cities golems, Dorfl, may have something to do with the murders or does it? Either way it's not speaking, well not just because it can't but because it won't. At least until Carrot is able to fill its head with trust. It turns from simple murder to a far more complex issue that must be solved quickly before things escalate any further. Does Carrot give it his all to in the end fail?
